Many years ago, at McNulty's, a bar in Chelsea where I hung out from time to time, back when New York was New York, and people were allowed to smoke in places like this. Bars where you're not allowed to smoke are not really bars — they're theme park attractions where duppies (depressed urban professionals) can pretend that they're hanging out in bars, the sort of establishments they've read about in books or seen in old movies. They're such pathetic creatures, these duppies — God bless them!

I just published a short story, a tale of the Old West both comical and tragical, on Amazon for the Kindle. It can be had at this link for $0.99 while supplies last. You don't need a Kindle to read it – free Kindle reading apps for most computers and portable devices are available here. The story concerns a hapless bounty hunter who partners up with an orphan girl on a grand but brief adventure. It may remind you a bit of True Grit, but it goes somewhere else.
My Facebook friend Polly Frost, whose own e-books can be had at this link, made me do it — or at least persuaded me that I had no excuse not to do it.
