They sure did! Not only a great Western but a very profitable one. Hollywood still hasn’t gotten the message, I’m afraid — that traditional Westerns are commercial. A friend asked a Hollywood producer if the success of “True Grit” might open the way for more big-budget Westerns. “‘True Grit’ is not a Western,” the producer said. “It’s a Coen brothers film.” The town is implacable on the subject.
